2D Design Assignment 9

The final assignment of the semester was to take five of the hundred thumbnails from the previous assignment and expound upon them.  I enjoyed this one because I got to add details that had to be left out due to size constraints as well as create more of a little world for each image.  I'm also glad the class is done!

2D Design Assignment 8

Assignment 8 was to illustrate a sound, which resulted in some interesting visuals.  From top left to bottom right the sounds were: Car crash, clock, typewriter, conversation between an overbearing father and daughter, conversation between a tuba and a flute, conversation between America and terrorists, bees making love, a jazz band, and a squeaky hinge.

2D Design Assignment 7

By far the most time consuming piece of work in the class to date.  With this project we had to create 100 two inch by two and a half inch pictures on one concept.  Mine was keys, if you didn't get that from the ONE HUNDRED pictures about.  Some of the images I really enjoy while others were pretty much cannon fodder for the numbers game.  I hope all the nerds out there are going out to get their home keys remade into their favorite 8-bit characters.

2D Design Assignment 6

I named this one "Cat Moses".  I have no idea why.  This poor abomination was the result of a project in which we had to create an image with textured mediums and then ink a copy of it, attempting to translate those textures into the inked likeness.  Looking into those giant kitty cat eyes makes me feel as though a piece of my soul is being stolen.  *shudder*

2D Design Assignment 5

 

Sticking to the typography theme, assignment  had us use different topographies to illustrate an array of business cards.  Mine were critiqued as being too "real" looking.  What does that even mean?

2D Design Assignment 4

Assignment 4 had us use typography to create different pictures.  The teacher was leaning on us to go in an abstract direction, but I enjoyed using the letters as building blocks to create a more landscape image.  As you can see I conceded the top image to appease the professor.  

2D Design Assignment 2

Assignment 2 had us render photographs in ink with an increasing zoom, starting with a clear picture of the image to an abstract close up.  I attempted three different methods of texturing (from top to bottom): Pointilistic, Gray Shades, and Crosshatching.  I feel like the gray shades gives the image the most photographic rendering.  Also the photographs I took were (from top to bottom): An aquarium rock lobster, my dog Ellie, and a flower outside my apartment.

2D Design Assignment 1

In this assignment we were tasked with developing images of negative space out several pre ordained topics.  I chose Moby Dick, Shark, and Steam.  I enjoyed this project because of its simplistic idealization of the chosen topics.
